Chamkila Movie Synopsis
The film tells the story of Amar Singh Chamkila, a Punjabi singer who was killed and is sometimes called the "Elvis Presley of Punjab." Controversial folk singer, composer, and songwriter Chamkila was assassinated in 1988 in Mehsampur, Punjab, at a young age of 27 along with his spouse and singing partner Amarjot, by unidentified gunmen. The artist with the greatest record sales at the time was Chamkila. He remains one of Punjab's greatest live performers to have ever graced the stage. In the 1980s, he came out of the shadows of poverty and achieved unprecedented levels of popularity.

Directed by the well-known Imtiaz Ali, the film will debut on Netflix on April 12.
